She has also been appointed to be the advanced academic assistant of professor Zhong jingwen for 15 years until he passed away in 2002. Since 1994, she has been selected as a post-doctoral student and received international professional training at the University of Iowa,USA, the University of Joensu in Finland and the University of Oxford in UK. In the years that followed, she worked both at Beijing Normal University in China and went to other overseas universities or research institutes as a visiting professor mainly including at École Française d’Extrême-Orient,Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales,Institute of France, University of Artois in France; University of Oklahoma, Russian National University of Humanities, University of Tartu in Estonia etc. to do cooperative researches together with the international research teams. She is the member of Folklore Fellow Communication(FFC) in Finland, member of Asian Society of Institute of France. She is currently the dean of College of Transcultural Studies at Beijing Normal University, director of Research Institute for Chinese Folk Culture at Beijing Normal University(2016-present), vice-director of Research Center for Folklore, Ancient Writing and Chinese Characters at Beijing Normal University,Key Research Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences by the Ministry of Education PRC.(2000-present), and director of Digital Folklore Laboratory at Beijing Normal University(2003-present). Professor Dong Xiaoping inherits Professor Zhong Jingwen's unfinished career and pushes to develop forward. Her main contributions for it are as follows:1) opening a new research branch of "Zhong Jingwen’s Classical Folkloristics",as a re-editor-in-chief to launch the project to revise the first national textbooks of Folkloristics "Introduction to Folk Literature "(2nd edition) and" Introduction to Folkloristics "(2nd edition), in China and published them in 2010 to meet the needs in 21st new era to toward the Chinese Universities’teaching and research (the original editions of this two textbooks published in 1980 and 1998 , the chief editor of them is Zhong Jinwen,Dong Xiaoping is the vice chief editor of Introduction to Folkloristics as his assistant. she edited and published Zhong Jingwen’s Complete works 钟敬文全集(16 volumes,30 books,2018) as an editor in chief, and also published her four books personally as a result of academic research on Zhong Jingwen’s theory. Meanwhile, maybe also important,she open up a new research branches of "Folklore Fieldwork"and " Writing Folklore "to put forward the systematic theory and methodology of the research on Chinese fieldwork and its oral tradition, and the writing tradition preserved in Chinese historical classics and its huge documents.In this field her representative books are " Folklore Fieldwork "(2003,2015,2018,2019) and The Textualization and Oral Forms in Chinese Classics文献与口头"(2019).According to China’s situation, she has explored the new direction of interdiscipline study between Folkloristics and Sociology,and her representative works in this aspect are Folklore and Modernization of Domestic Water Control in a Non-irrigation Society in Middle China 不灌而治 (together with Christian Lamouroux,2003) and Strategy of Constructing the Soft Power of Chinese Folk Culture and its Development 中国民俗文化软实力发展战略专论(2015). 2) Opening a new research branch of "Digital Folklore ". she established first digital folklore laboratory in BNU as a pioneer among Chinese universities since 2003,has built a digital platform with an innovation team for storing, utilizing and issuing digital folklore resources, completing the digitalizing Collections of Chinese folktales, setting up “Digital Zhong Jingwen Workstations” and published a book by same title(2009), and making more than 650 kinds of software, compiling and publishing four series books of" Digital Folklore and Cultural Heritage "(2009,2012).Base on the digital folklore project she develops a research branch of "Technical Folklore ", did the interdisciplinary study between the Folkloristics and the History of Science and Technology in China, completing the field research of 12 enterprises which date back to the traditional handcrafts’workshop of the Qing Palace at least since 17 century, and edited 8 books as a series of this case study(in coming).3) To open up a new research branch of Folkloristics in trancultural studies, edited (in cooperation with Jin Siyan) and published a series of 88 books(2016-2019), She personally published 11 books in this series so as to promote the cultural subjectivity of Chinese folklorists and to enhance the level of internationality for Chinese Folkloristics.
